Future Scholars

The Missouri S&T Honors Academy offers students the opportunity to be a part of a community of outstanding scholars who are seeking an enhanced educational experience. This program is designed to instill honors habits to explore ways to search for answers beyond the norm of course syllabi descriptions. The rewards are earning the distinction of "Honors Academy Fellow" at graduation, which is noted on the diploma, transcript, and commencement program.

At Missouri S&T, Honors Academy students are recognized for their academic excellence and are provided with individualized attention and opportunities to establish leadership development skills, interact with faculty members and participate in special projects including service learning, undergraduate research, and other beneficial experiences.

Curricular

Curiosity, exposure to diverse ideas, and being well rounded is a fundamental aspect of an honors scholar experience.  Students will be required to complete course credit outside their major.  Classes count towards academic degree requirements. 

 

 

Immersion Experience

Scholars will expand their understanding of the world by actively engaging in an immersion experience that aligns to their interest and professional goals. Scholars will be expected to spend about 50 hours within the experience.

Leadership

To help scholars prepare for being active citizens and leaders in their respective professions, they must actively participate being a leader or mentor on campus. Scholars must complete at least 15 hours within leadership roles.

Potential Leadership Experiences

  • Leadership position within a Design Team
  • Hold an executive officer position of president within a registered student organization.
  • Hold an executive officer position within the Greek Community (e.g. chapter president, serve on one of the governing council, or national organization).
  • Serve within a formal mentor position on campus (Pro Leader, Student Success Coach, Resident Assistant, Kummer Vanguard Scholars Mentor, etc.)

Community

  • Scholars have the opportunity to participate in honors sponsored events such as nights at the theater or other social activities. 

Honors Residential Community

Honors Living Learning Community is designed for students who are selected for Missouri S&T's Honors Academy. As part of the Honors community, you will live and develop connections with other students enrolled in the Honors program on campus. Students will live together in Residential Commons 2. Living in the honors community is not required for honors students but is a housing option exclusive to honors students.

Scholarship

  • Incoming students will receive a $1,000 renewable scholarship. Current S&T students joining the Honors Academy are ineligible for the scholarship.  

Recognition at Graduation

Scholars who have successfully completed program requirements will be recognized at graduation as Honors Academy Fellows. Students will receive an medal, be listed in the commencement program, the achievement noted on their diploma and transcript.  

Eligibility Requirements

Scholars must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Honors Academy.

  1. Have a ACT score is 29 or higher/SAT is 1340 or above, &
  2. Have a minimum GPA of 3.75

 

Test Optional Students

  1. Have a minimum GPA of 3.75
  2. Review of written essays submitted with application to Missouri S&T

Scholars must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Honors Academy.

  1. Have a minimum college GPA of 3.5 
  2. Completed one semester (12 credit hours) of college courses

Scholars must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Honors Academy.

  1. They have a minimum GPA of 3.5
  2. A minimum of 24 S&T graded, college-level credits

Incoming Students

Scholars meeting eligibility requirements and accepted into Missouri S&T will receive an email inviting them to apply for the Honors Academy starting in November. 

Scholars can apply apply directly, but will need to have their admissions account setup to login. To create an account please visit the  Admission Portal

To be considered for the Honors Academy scholars must apply by Feb. 15, 2024.

Please note applications will not be reviewed until student has applied and been admitted into S&T. 


Selected scholars will receive an email from Missouri S&T with an offer to join the Honors Academy starting in early March 2024.

Scholars must accept the offer and complete the following steps by April 15, 2024 to secure their spot. 

Transfer Students

Scholars meeting eligibility requirements and accepted into Missouri S&T will receive an email inviting them to apply for the Honors Academy starting in November.

Current Students

If you are currently enrolled at Missouri S&T and are interested in the Honors Academy, please contact Honors Academy at msthonorsacademy@mst.edu

Honors Housing

Students interested in the honors community will need to complete the following steps prior to Feb. 15 to be given priority for honors housing:

  • Register for A&R Day
  • Pay enrollment fee
  • Complete housing application
  • Complete Housing Interest Form (HIF)
    • HIF will be sent to students beginning December 1 who have completed the above 3 steps
  • Apply to the Honors Academy by Feb. 15, 2024. 

If assigned to the honors community students will be sent their housing assignments by March.

*Please note that spaces in the Honors community are limited.  Priority will be based on the date that students complete their Housing Information Form (HIF) which will be available on December 1.
